Appalachian Electric Cooperative Chooses Futura

Appalachian Electric Cooperative Chooses Futura GIS, Stake, Mobile & Field Inspection

Appalachian EC in New Market, TN, has chosen the Futura Geographic Information System (GIS), Futura Staking, Mobile Viewer and Futura Field Inspection.

Appalachian Electric Cooperative (AEC) has recently upgraded their utility mapping software from ArcFM to Futura Systems software. With the upgrade to Futura GIS, Staking, Mobile Viewer and Field Inspection the east Tennessee cooperative will have access to powerful tools that integrate seamlessly with their CIS and Work Management System software from Professional Computer Systems as well as Futura’s own field applications. “AEC was looking for a total mapping and field solution that would provide real solutions to real problems, right now and we did not want the concern of many third-party interfaces,” said Adam Newcomb, Director of Engineering and Transmission. “We needed solutions not only for mapping, staking and field inspections, but also solutions for managing field devices that fully integrate with GIS.”

As an extension of the Esri software, the Futura suite contains powerful yet easy-to-use mapping, asset and data management tools. In addition to being able to model switching inside the mapping software, Appalachian EC will be able to take advantage of the many other key features – like highly configurable skins, ribbons and toolbars. Additional features that will help increase efficiencies and facilitate time management include the ability to do cost estimating in the field and post staking jobs directly into FuturaGIS – without data translation or the need to redraw. More robust and cost-effective than separate modules, the Futura utility software was a logical choice for this Tennessee Valley Authority co-op committed to providing its members with reliable, safe and efficient electric service and contributing to the economic growth of their region.
