Our Year in Review: Customer Stories that Made an Impact
We’ve shared a few stories throughout the year that highlight some of our customers’ successes and challenges, and the innovative ways they’re using GIS solutions to drive progress at their utilities. From operational improvements to inventive takes on change management, these stories showcase the real-world impact of hard work, collaboration, and creative problem-solving.
As we wrap up the year, let’s take a look back at the moments and milestones that made 2024 one to remember.
Cooperating with Nature: Anza EC and Wildlife Mitigation: When a pair of hawks were repeatedly nesting on a specific power pole, Anza EC found a creative solution that protected the wildlife, ensures reliable service, and strengthened community ties. By installing a new pole with approval from the local native tribe, the co-op preserved the hawks’ habitat while maintaining the safety of their operational infrastructure. Supported by Futura’s Asset Tracking solution, this project reflects Anza EC’s proactive approach to balancing innovation, environmental care, and community collaboration.
A Picture Is Worth a Thousand (Or More) Data Points: When Central Georgia EMC introduced Futura’s Inspections tool, they found a unique way to get field crews on board—taking selfies. This creative approach broke down the natural resistance to new technology and highlighted the tool’s ease of use, leading to widespread adoption. Now, with over 2.7 million images in their system, CGEMC leverages visual data to track asset lifecycles, ensure accountability, and inspire other co-ops to embrace similar strategies.
The Power of Vigilance: How Dixie EPA’s Teamwork Saved Lives in Wayne County: A routine workday took an extraordinary turn when Dixie EPA’s Tommy Ulmer and Dan Wooten trusted their instincts, alerting and coordinating with local authorities to stop a dangerous situation in its tracks, preventing harm to a nearby school. Their actions are a powerful reminder of how vigilance, teamwork, and a commitment to community can overcome any type of threat.
The Analytics of Operations: Coweta-Fayette’s Enhanced Futura Experience with MeridianIQ: When Coweta-Fayette EMC brought MeridianIQ into their Futura-powered workflows, their GIS team unlocked new levels of efficiency and insight. With tailored training from Meridian’s Curt Arulf, they were able to transform complex data into easy-to-understand reports. Now, multiple departments across the co-op can quickly track operations, streamline reporting, and make informed decisions.
